How to make your Sagem vectoring-friendly

As you may know, Proximus has launched a new technology, which is called vectoring. The principle of the vectoring is to cancel the cross-talk between different VDSL lines in the same copper bundle. With no interference, each vectored VDSL line reaches a higher speed, as if it were the only one in the bundle.

In the Proximus network, the vectoring will be applied at the ROP level: all existing VDSL line cards must be replaced by the new ones. In order to deploy the vectoring, Proximus will also require the upgrade of all installed modems to vector friendliness or their replacement by the vector-compliant modems.

In order to make the Sagem vectoring-friendly and to guarantee its compatibility with a new technology, a new firmware has been released. The firmware update will be performed by Proximus remotely, but it cannot be done until the modem is reachable through Proximus upgrade platform i.e. until the interface VLAN20 of the modem is unblocked. The goal of this article is to help you check whether VLAN20 (interface eth1.20) is enabled on your modem and to activate it if it's not the case.

There are two ways to enable the interface VLAN20: by activating it manually via the web interface or by restoring the factory modem settings. You'll find below the links to the pages showing how to properly prepare the modem to the firmware update, in one way or the other.

Enable VLAN20 by resetting the modem

The second way to open VLAN20 might be interesting for those who usually use the Sagem in the bridge modem. In this case a reset to the factory settings will be enough to activate the necessary interface and to make the modem prepared for the firmware update:
