Obox3v - internet and telephony

This article will guide you through installing the router and configuring internet and VoIP services.

Obox3v box contents

From left to right:

  • Telephone cable.
  • DSL cable to connect the router to the wall socket.
  • Network cable (RJ-45) to connect the computer and router.
  • Power supply.

How to connect the router to the computer

Connect the power supply to the router.
Connect the DSL cable to the wall socket.
Connect one side of the network cable to the computer and the other side to the router.

How to power on the router

Power on the router by pushing the button at the backside (the most left one). After a selftest it's ready to be configured (the router can reboot several times during first use, this process can take several minutes).

How to determine the status of the router

POWER

  • Blue LED
    • On : The router is turned ON and ready for operation.
    • Off : The router is turned OFF.

DSL

  • Blue LED
    • On : The router is synchronized.
    • Flashing : The router is initializing the DSL line.
    • Off : The DSL link is down.


Internet

  • Blue LED
    • On : PPP session is established.
    • Off : No PPP session configured.
  • Red LED
    • On: PPP session is not established (username/password error).

LAN

  • Blue LED
    • On : At least one device is connected to one of the LAN ports and turned ON.
    • Off : No device is connected (or it’s connected and turned OFF).

Phone1 and Phone2

  • Blue LED
    • On : The VOIP account is configured properly and ready for use.
    • Off : No VOIP account is configured.
  • Red LED
    • On : The VOIP account isn't configured correctly.

WPS

  • Blue LED
    • Flashing : WPS is activating.

WiFi

  • Blue LED
    • On : WiFi is enabled in the router.
    • Flashing : WiFi is used.
    • Off : WiFi is disabled.

ETH1-ETH4

  • Green LED
    • On : Network cable is connected to the port and to the management computer switched on.
    • Flashing : Network cable is connected to the port and there is a traffic between router and computer.
    • Off : Network cable is not connected to the port or the management computer is switched off.

How to configure the computer

Windows

  1. Click on 'Start' (Windows logo) > 'Control Panel' > 'Network and Internet'.
  2. Go to 'Network and Sharing Center' > 'Change adapter settings'
  3. Doubleclick on Local Area Connection to open the LAN-status window.
  4. Click on the 'Properties' button. At this point we advise you to check if there is a networkcard mentioned in the non-active textfield 'Connect using'. If not, please contact your network administrator. 
  5. Select 'Internetprotocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)' or v6, if it's active. If the 'Internetprotocol (TCP/IPv4)' is not visible in the list, please contact your network administrator. 
  6. Click on the 'Properties' button. Write down the current settings to reconfigure/restore them again if needed.
  7. Select 'Obtain an IP address automatically'.
  8. Select 'Obtain DNS server address automatically'.
  9. Click 'OK' to exit the window and return to 'Local Area Connection properties'.
  10. Click 'OK' to exit the window and return to 'Network connections'.

Mac OS X

  1. Click on the Apple icon in the top-left corner of your desktop and select System Preferences.
  2. Under Internet & Wireless, select Network.
  3. Click the Advanced button when the Network screen appears. The default Location is Automatic.
  4. Click TCP/IP.
  5. On the Configure IPv4 dropdown, select Using DHCP. Click Apply Now and close the remaining windows.

How to access the router

Start a web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, ...). Enter the default interface address http://192.168.1.1 as the website address.

Obox3v is protected by default. The default password is printed on a label you may find in the bottom of the router.

Internet and telephony configuration

First page

Here is the first page you see when you access the Obox3v:

Select User and introduce a password (case sensitive) printed on a sticker. 

Click on Next to continue. 

Important!: you cannot switch the language on this page. You need to log in first

Main menu

Now you arrive on the main page. 
You can change the language in the top right if you need it. 
The router is available in English (the default one), French and Dutch.

You can see the following menus:

  • Network Connectivity: to establish a PPP connection. 
  • Access control: to configure Parental control, Firewall level, DMZ host, port forwarding, and remote management. 
  • My Modem: to find some general info (firmware version, uptime, etc), LAN sharing option, DHCPv4 parameters, DynDNS configuration, and Maintenance (to reboot or reset the modem). 
  • Wi-Fi: to configure the wireless network. 
  • Ethernet: to check the port status (UP or down, if a device is connected or not) and also the traffic usage on that port. 
  • USB: to check if there's any USB device connected to it. 
  • Telephone: to configure the VOIP account, and, if you click on Phone 1 or Phone 2, see the call history for that number.

Internet configuration

In order to configure the PPP connection you should take the following steps: 

Select Network Connectivity 
Click on Show advanced controls under the sub menu Internet 

You’ll see a following unfolding menu: 

The router is by default in Bridge Mode. You have not only to type your username and password, but also enable PPP (select Enable in the menu below). 

Click OK once it’s done. 

You will be redirected to the main menu. If you click back on Network connectivity, and then on Show Advance Controls, you will see that the router is connected. You could also see an IP address you got:

VoIP Configuration

In the main menu select Telephony or click on the blue button

You'll see the following: 


First of all, you should select Enable on top. 

After that, enter the complete configuration for your VoIP telephone number

Domain: voip.edpnet.be 
Telephone no: your phone number 
Username: your phone number 
Password: the password provided by edpnet. 
Transport: UDP 
Port: 5060 

Click OK at the bottom right. 

Once it’s done you will be redirected to the main menu. If you click back on Telephony, you will see that the line status is now UP

Important! : you don't have to reboot the router after having configured the VoIP account.

However, you can always do it if you're experiencing any problems (e.g. the line status isn't coming UP).

Please pay attention that you cannot merge the ports (so you cannot have one number that come out on both Telephone ports). 

It’s only possible to configure one number per port.
