What is UMTS (3G)

UMTS stands for Universal Mobile Telecommunications Service. This is so-called ‘third generation’ (3G) technology for sending and receiving data or voice. It can reach speeds (up to 2 Mbps) which are much higher than the current GSM system GPRS or Edge.

It can almost be compared to the difference between broadband and analogue Internet.

3G is currently supported in most of the countries, with exception to a few dark spots where only the slower Edge is available.
